Daniel Craig Ran Away From Batista After Breaking His Nose While Filming 'Spectre'

Batista got into a fight with James Bond and got his nose broken, but he wasn't the only one injured while filming.

Batista played the role of Mr. Hinx in the penultimate James Bond movie of the Daniel Craig era, Spectre. The 2015 film puts Batista in a role familiar to him from his early days in Evolution, the silent killer. this role also sees Batista participate in a long-running Bond trope, a train fight sequence.

Appearing on The Graham Norton Show (via IGN), Daniel Craig, who is getting ready for the release of his final Bond film, No Time To Die, reveals that he broke Batista's nose during the filming of this fight and ran away from him immediately thinking that “The Animal” would be out for vengeance.

"I broke his nose. I didn't do it deliberately. Clearly, it was a mistake," Craig said, reflecting on the choreographed clash. "He's a big guy, he's a professional wrestler. You really wouldn't mess with him. I threw this punch and hit him on the nose. I heard this crack and I was like 'Oh God no' and ran away. I thought he was going to come after me but he was so sweet."

"He's a lot tougher than I am," Craig said of Batista, recalling how he set his nose back in place to continue production.

Batista also incidentally injured Daniel Craig during the filming of the fight scene, forcing Craig to re-shoot the scene with a knee brace on.

"I ended up on the wall, but my knee was over here somewhere," Craig explained, gesturing some distance away from him. "I knew and it was horrible because if anyone's had an injury, you just know in your head that something is really wrong... I was out and then we went back and we re-filmed it. I had to film it with a brace on. It was a struggle to do it."

Joining the cast of Spectre also meant that Batista joined a list of professional wrestlers that have participated in the James Bond franchise. That list also includes “High Chief” Peter Maivia, grandfather of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Craig and Batista will be reconnected soon as both are involved in the upcoming sequel to Knives Out. Learn more here.
