Darby Allin: If I Can’t Wrestle The Way I Want, I’m Out

Darby Allin says he’d leave if he couldn’t wrestle the way he wanted.

The current AEW World Champion, Darby Allin, is scheduled to face MJF at AEW Double or Nothing. Darby is known for taking high risks in his matches, which has earned him criticism from fans and wrestlers alike.

While appearing on Busted Open recently, Darby was asked if he is concerned his body will catch up with his style of wrestling.

“Absolutely. But I won’t stop until that day happens. I think the beauty of what I do is I made a very calculated decision early on in my career where I didn’t want to look too pretty or dancey with my moveset in the sense of being super on the ropes and doing all this balance stuff. Because I know that is going to have a shelf life. But if you’re just going to Coffin Drop a fool, I feel like that’s pretty hard to mess up, falling backwards on someone. But as for the question of how long can my body endure what I’m putting it through, I think that just remains to be seen.”

Later, Darby was asked if he’d consider changing his style if that day ever comes.

“I’m out. If I can’t do it the way I want to do it, I’m out. I’m out and that’s okay. The biggest thing I’ve taken away from Sting and being with Sting is, ‘Hey, you have to be at peace with yourself life after wrestling. You have to.’ Then the thing is, it’s just talking to Sting about it. It’s like, ‘I’m ready.’ Like, if this all ended tomorrow, I’m ready. But until then, I’m going to ride it till the wheels fall off. I don’t want to be that guy who’s not doing the version of Darby that you currently see.”

In another interview, Darby said that having kids of his own won’t make him tone down his wrestling style. Fans can check his comments here.
