For a lot of professional wrestlers, they have a background in the world of amateur wrestling, including some of the greatest pro wrestlers to ever do it. Darby Allin, who is AEW’s resident thrillseeker, is also someone who originally began his journey in amateur wrestling, however, it was not something he originally intended to do.
While speaking to RJ City in a new interview, Darby was asked about how he got into amateur wrestling, with Darby sharing that he walked in and wondered where the professional wrestling aspects were, like steel chairs and ‘sh*t’.
“I took amateur wrestling when I first walked in there. I was like, ‘where’s the chairs and shit?’ There’s none. But then I took it very, very serious and I won third in the state in Idaho, which is like fifth grade, like first year is crazy.”
Elsewhere in another recent interview, Darby spoke about the possibility of becoming a heel in All Elite Wrestling, noting that it is possible in the future. You can read more about that here.
