Dean Malenko has high praise for Rey Fenix.
Fenix is regarded as one of the top luchadors in the world today and arguably the best high-flier in wrestling. Malenko, who currently works as an agent in AEW, knows all about sharing the ring with some of the top luchadors as he was a staple in the WCW cruiserweight division.
During his run in WCW, Malenko battled the likes of Rey Mysterio, Psicosis, and Ultimo Dragon. Speaking about Fenix on Chris Jericho's Talk Is Jericho, Malenko offered a top comparison to the current AEW star.
"Oh, for sure [he's a modern day Rey Mysterio]. He's really understanding the art of selling and letting things digest with the audience. When I first came here, he was all over the place. Slowly but surely, he's starting to grasp that. When you're writing something, there's a period or comma to stop. Before it was one long (sentence) with no periods and all the words jumbled together. He's really improved on that and you can see it. He's one of the top guys in the company. Every week I watch him, I get more amazed. He's like Rey, a rare gift where his body motions and body language get sympathy with the audience," said Malenko.
Fenix is in line for an AEW Tag Team Title match alongside PAC as they won the Casino Tag Team Royale at AEW Revolution.
Elsewhere during the podcast, Malenko discussed his relationship with Vince McMahon during his time in WWE. You can view his full comments by clicking here.
