During the August 24 episode of AEW Rampage, the Lucha Brothers announced that AEW All-Atlantic Champion PAC will return so they can compete in the tournament for the AEW World Trios Championship. In the first round, they will face Aussie Open and Will Ospreay. The broadcast team confirmed that the bout will be held on the August 24 episode of AEW Dynamite.
The Death Triangle last competed as a trio on the June 1 taping of AEW Dark: Elevation. Since then, Penta and Fenix have been feuding with RUSH and Andrade El Idolo. Meanwhile, PAC has been defending his title around the world.
Ospreay and Aussie Open competed on AEW programming multiple times ahead of AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. At the pay-per-view, Ospreay defeated Orange Cassidy.
