Long may she reign, Melina or not.
Tonight, Deonna Purrazzo will make history at NWA EmPowerrr as she faces Melina for the IMPACT Knockouts Championship. Should Melina manage to pull out the victory, she will become one of only a handful of women in history to win the WWE Women's Championship, the WWE Divas Championship, and the IMPACT Knockouts Championship.
However, Deonna has no plan to allow this to happen as she is determined to make history in her own way as “The Age of The Virtuosa” continues to reign supreme over women's wrestling.
“It’s exciting,” Purrazzo tells WrestleZone’s Bill Pritchard. “Especially having someone like Melina, who’s been working with NWA quite a bit. That’s someone I grew up watching, I was inspired by [her]. Ahead of her time as far as wrestling before women’s wrestling was really a thing in WWE. So, it’s definitely exciting that I’m going to be able to have this match with her but the bigger gripe here is that my moments are squashed and I just don’t really appreciate it. At the end of the day, the mission is the same, I have to defend and retain my IMPACT Knockouts Championship, so Melina is just one more legend that I’m going to put on the shelf in the ‘Age Of The Virtuosa.’”
Purrazzo, cerebral in everything she does, also stated that she plans on manipulating prior injuries suffered by Melina in order to pick up the victory.
“There is some stuff medically that I know about Melina, her knee isn’t as great as it once was. So, I definitely have some tricks up my sleeve and once I get the chance to study I will be pinpointing for sure.”
