Deonna Purrazzo Wants To Be The First Female Governor Of Florida
Deonna Purrazzo is “The Virtuosa” in the wrestling ring, but like some wrestlers before her, she’s also considering the political arena.
Deonna Purrazzo holds a master’s degree in political science and is passionate about American history. While she is dedicated to her work in AEW and Ring of Honor, she is also considering life beyond wrestling. Specifically, she is interested in the world of politics and revealed that she recently interned at a Senate office during the summer of 2025. She also has the ambitious goal of becoming the first female governor of Florida.
“So my master’s degree is in political science, and this summer, I was really fortunate to take an internship in a Senate office, and I had such a great time learning about something that is not wrestling-related,” she told Jim Varsallone. “Obviously, we’ve talked about our long history in wrestling. We’ve each been wrestling for 13 years, and so it’s really been fun to explore these transitions. Post-WWE back in 2020, I figured out who else I want to be, and part of that was going to school, getting a degree. I would have never thought 20 years ago that I’d be studying political science, working in a Senate office, or saying that one day I’m going to be the first female governor of Florida.
“But who knows what’s going to happen, and that’s what’s been really fun about our success: it’s opened up the avenues to really have aspirations elsewhere. Obviously, we’ve been able to really use our voice and our platform for advocacy for veterans and our first responders, and that’s big in our household, but I think that’s what’s made the wrestling success so worth it is now we have this voice and this platform to be able to give back to others.”
Other wrestlers have gone on to hold political office. Jesse Ventura was the governor of Minnesota. WWE Hall of Famer Kane, aka Glenn Jacobs, is currently the mayor of Knox County, Tennessee. Maybe Deonna Purrazzo will add her name to that list someday.
For now, she’s still with AEW and has a major supporter in Tony Khan. Read Tony’s thoughts on Deonna here.
