Details Behind Will Ospreay Working AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, Concerns For His Health

Will Ospreay appeared at AEW Forbidden Door, but it was certainly a touch and go situation.

The move is also against the better judgment of many in All Elite Wrestling and even some on the roster.

Fightful Select spoke to sources that said they were actually hopeful that Will Ospreay wouldn’t end up wrestling at Forbidden Door. With his neck injury, he was told by his surgeon that it needs to be taken care of, but that it wasn’t getting worse, per SI.

Ospreay didn’t outright say that he would be getting surgery, but implied it. Even people on the roster we spoke to didn’t say that they’ve outright been told that he’s getting surgery, but that they don’t expect him to be around for a while after Forbidden Door. Will Ospreay had made it very clear to people in the company that working Forbidden Door was important to him.

Ospreay went into AEW All In knowing that he was going to need some time off, which drastically changed the tentative plans following the huge show. AEW wasn’t quite sure how long they would need Ospreay to be out, as he had not started his rehab until after the All In event.

Will Ospreay’s speech on the episode of Dynamite that aired after All In even came together last minute, AEW sources tell us. Originally he wasn’t going to cut a promo revealing his injury, but he was asked as there were a number of wrestlers not cleared and changes made to the show.

Contrary to the line on Dynamite, Ospreay was actually cleared to compete in the match.
