Diamond Dallas Page may not be a Paul Heyman guy on camera but he believes he would have never gotten his start in professional wrestling unless Paul Heyman departed the AWA.
Diamond Dallas Page started his career as a wrestler later in life but in the beginning, he was a manager in both WCW and the AWA.
Speaking with Stone Cold Steve Austin on the Broken Skull Sessions on Peacock, Diamond Dallas Page explained how Paul Heyman helped him in his early days first by leaving the AWA.
"Greg Gagne has been, since 1993, probably my biggest driving force to become a top guy. At the time, I'm nobody. It's 1988, Greg Gagne calls me up and he says, Dallas, we're going to give you a shot. We're going to put you with one of our teams and we're going to give you an opportunity. Bring all those crazy clothes you wear and a couple of those hot women, and we're going to give you an opportunity."
Page added, "The only reason it happened was because Paul Heyman — Paul E. Dangerously left. If Paul E. doesn't leave, I never get that shot."
Furthermore, Diamond Dallas Page says Paul Heyman smartened him up prior to a WWE tryout that WWE was going to want him to tug on his ponytail on camera.
“Dude, I'm going to tell you who smarten me up to all of this for it happened. Paul E. Dangerously Thank you, Paul E. Paul E smartened me up. He goes, ‘They're gonna make you pull in your ponytail.’ I said, ‘They're gonna what?’ He goes, ‘They're gonna make you pull on your ponytail. So just go with it.’ When I got there, that's what this was about.That was Bruce Prichard telling me to do that. You know, it's like, I get it. But it's all part of the business.”
Diamond Dallas Page would eventually make it to WWE in 2001 and was the stalker of The Undertaker's wife. Paul Heyman and Diamond Dallas Page would be a part of the same Alliance but would never really be featured together onscreen in any major capacity.
Diamond Dallas Page was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017.
