Dolph Ziggler is still on WWE hiatus, but he lied to the saint of wrestling interviewers, Chris Van Vliet. Or so it seemed at the Royal Rumble
You may remember that Ziggler spoke to Van Vliet shortly before the Royal Rumble and stated that he wouldn't be a part of the match, which made headlines. The Rumble happened, and so did Dolph Ziggler in the match. Van Vliet shared his reaction to hearing Ziggler's music on Twitter.
HAHAHA!— Chris Van Vliet (@ChrisVanVliet) April 20, 2019
Imagine my reaction when I was sitting in the crowd and I hear "I'm here to show the world..." -- https://t.co/7Wstr6Sdfc
Ziggler spoke to Van Vliet of WSVN-TV yet again, where the subject was broached. While it may have seemed like Ziggler was keeping a close guarded secret, he said instead that he just didn't know and wasn't set for the event.
"Oh my God. That's a great story. Can I tell this story?," Dolph wondered. "When I talked to you, I was not booked for the Royal Rumble and I have no reason to lie to anybody or be like 'Hey listen, I don't know what the deal is'. I was just on hiatus and I got a call to be there. And if I wasn't in town for a booking for a comedy show that night I would not have even been in Phoenix. I got a call the night before saying 'Hey, you gotta get here.'"
Ziggler appeared on the show, and eliminated friend-turned-foe Drew McIntyre, and hasn't been on WWE TV since. Months after the spot, Ziggler isn't quite sure why he was told to eliminate McIntyre, but just had to get to his comedy booking that same night.
"I'm not exactly sure but it did go into it more but I don't know if that continues because I'm still just on vacation. I think it was more just I was in town and I'm one of their guys and it happened to work out so I got a double booking, double pay day, WWE and the comedy show. I was one of the last people in the ring that night and my comedy show three blocks away had to start an hour late because I was running over with sweat and my bags. I almost went in my gear but I was like I'm going to have to shower," said Ziggler.
