Dominik Mysterio Def. AJ Styles To Retain WWE Intercontinental Championship At SummerSlam

A.J. Styles made his way to the ring in a low rider for the Intercontinental Championship match against Dominik Mysterio at WWE SummerSlam. In the passenger seat was Styles’ son, Avery. Styles was sporting Eddie Guerrero-themed gear. It was the same color scheme that Guerrero wore at SummerSlam 2005 when he faced Rey Mysterio in the Ladder match for custody of Dominik.

Dominik and Styles did a Guerrero spot when Dominik tossed a chair to Styles and laid on the mat as if Styles hit him. The referee’s back was still turned, so Styles placed the chair around his neck and laid on the mat as well.

There was a point in the bout when Styles was working Dominik’s ankle, so Dominik loosened his boot, knowing that Styles would try to go for the Calf Crusher submission. Styles did just that, and the boot came off.

While the referee’s attention was elsewhere because of the dust-up with Mysterio and Styles, Mysterio used his boot to hit Styles over the head. He proceeded to hit a Frog Splash onto Styles, and that secured him the win and kept the Intercontinental Title in his possession.

Mysterio will be going into Triplemanía on August 16th as Intercontinental Champion. He’ll be in a four-way match for the AAA Mega Championship with Dragon Lee, El Grande Americano, and the champion El Hijo del Vikingo.
