Wes Lee has earned a shot at the gold.
On the November 28 episode of WWE NXT, Wes Lee faced Bronson Reed, Cameron Grimes, and Johnny Gargano. The former NXT North American Champions are all on the main roster now, but they returned to NXT for the high-stakes match. Lee would have to emerge victorious to earn a shot at the NXT North American Championship, and that's exactly what he did.
The four stars battled it out in a thrilling match. Reed showcased his strength throughout the match, while Lee, Gargano, and Grimes utilized fast-paced offense to keep fans on the edge of their seats. In the end, WWE Raw star Ivar appeared and took the fight to Reed. They brawled, and Reed effectively took himself out of the match. In the closing moments, Grimes dropped Gargano with the Cave-In. Lee then hit Grimes with the Cardiac Kick for the win.

After the bell, Lee stared down NXT North American Champion Dominik Mysterio, who was on commentary. The title match was then confirmed for NXT Deadline on December 9.
Mysterio previously beat Lee to win the title on the July 18 episode of WWE NXT. Trick Williams dethroned Mysterio at NXT No Mercy, but Dominik won the title back on the October 3 episode of NXT.
