Drew McIntyre Discusses WWE Trusting Him In Matches Against Roman Reigns And Undertaker

Drew McIntyre felt something special with The Undertaker.

It's been a strong year for Drew McIntyre in terms of who he's shared the ring with. At WrestleMania 35, McIntyre faced Roman Reigns in Reigns' first singles match back following his battle with leukemia. At Extreme Rules, McIntyre teamed with Shane McMahon to face Reigns and The Undertaker, in Taker's first match since the debacle against Goldberg at WWE Super ShowDown.

Speaking to Cathy Kelley on WWE Now, McIntyre discussed both of those matches.

"[Those matches] are good examples of one, hard work paying off," stated McIntyre. "And two, especially with the Roman match at WrestleMania, the trust the company has in me, and Roman has in me to be his first match coming back from the illness. I took that as a huge responsibility to make sure that we showed the world that he was back 100%. That meant the world to me. The Taker [match], when I was 24 I wrestled him, he was my first official loss. He creamed me before he retired Shawn Michaels. This time was a little different. It was pretty cool because obviously what happened, happened [at Super ShowDown] and we all wanted to make sure that we gave the best match possible. When you're in there with a legend like Undertaker and someone like Roman and Shane who is willing to do anything and myself, we started with a good recipe and thankfully pulled it off. A big moment for me was the moment Taker and I went face-to-face. I heard the crowd rumbling and legit got goosebumps myself. I thought, 'Wow, there's something here.' If he's got a couple more in him, I'm the guy."

On the subject of facing The Undertaker in a singles bout, McIntyre stated, "I've been waiting for it since I was a kid. I won't say in so many words that I was told it was probably going to happen, but I wasn't ready for it when I was a kid. I'm ready now."

McIntyre has been a featured player on WWE television in 2019, but is not part of the WWE SummerSlam lineup. You can view his thoughts on being left off the card by clicking here.
