Drew McIntyre: EVOLVE Was My Training Ground To Be The Main Event Superstar I Am Today

Drew McIntyre discusses his time in EVOLVE.

After being released from WWE in 2014, Drew McIntyre went on to have a successful Independent run, which included a prolific adventure in EVOLVE. McIntyre's first post-WWE match took place on Aug. 8, 2014 when he challenged Kassius Ohno (Chris Hero outside of WWE) for the EVOLVE Championship.

Speaking to WWE, McIntyre discussed how EVOLVE helped him....evolve.

"My time in EVOLVE was significantly for me personally. The time I came into EVOLVE was my first match outside of WWE. They were going through a rebranding stage, and I had the opportunity to win the EVOLVE Title from Chris Hero [Kassius Ohno]. I hadn't been following independent wrestling, but I want to work with some of the best. That night, I watched the show and saw how incredible and talented the roster was. From that night on, I wanted to show the world who EVOLVE was and get the chance to learn how to be a main event player and apply the lessons I learned in WWE but never got to put in practice. EVOLVE was my training ground to become the Drew McIntyre [of] today. I don't know if I would have reached the confidence in myself as a main event superstar without EVOLVE."

It's a big weekend for EVOLVE as the promotion will debut on the WWE Network this Saturday with their 10th Anniversary show. You can view the current lineup for the show by clicking here.
