Drew McIntyre recalls he and Cody Rhodes’ hopes for singles gold during ‘The Dashing Ones’ run.

In late 2010, Cody Rhodes and McIntyre would briefly team together as ‘The Dashing Ones’, with gimmicks that centered around the pairs good looks. While their time together lasted just over a month, the pair would capture tag team gold together, but would have bigger aspirations at the time.

While speaking on the latest No-Contest Wrestling podcast, Drew McIntyre looked back on the pair’s time teaming together.

“We were the Dashing Ones back then, and we were, uh, we’re very similar. We’re both the same age, both very driven,  both that people believing in us to the point we really believed in ourselves, maybe more than we should have at the time. We really had big goals and you need to have big goals. As I mentioned already, you gotta fake it till you make it, and we were so sure of ourselves that we should be like world champions at that time when we won the tag titles, instead of taking that opportunity and making it as big as we possibly could. We kind of were like, why are we tag team champions right now? We should totally be fighting for the world title, which is insane to say right now, if that opportunity presented itself. But back then, it was ridiculous. That’s where our minds were at. We believed we should be in these big single spots as the old talent, older talent, I’m an older talent now, are making their way out, and the younger talent were coming up. That’s really how we felt at the time, and we both had to go on our unique journeys. As I say, they’re very similar. I ended up in 3MB after that chosen one run. Cody, after winning the IC title, and broken Cody, whatever you used to call the mask gimmick back in the day ended up as Stardust. He stepped out of the company, followed my blueprint and found success coming back to where he’s at now. Myself and Cody today are very, very different.”

Elsewhere in the same interview, McIntyre recalled being pitched a ‘Runway Man’ gimmick. You can read more about that here.
