Following his initial release and eventual return to WWE, Drew McIntyre would debut a new finish that he continues to use to this day in the form of the Claymore kick, a running one legged dropkick that has won him several championships. However, throughout his time using it, McIntyre admits there were a few occasions the move landed harder than expected.
While speaking on the latest No-Contest Wrestling podcast, McIntyre recalled a particular Claymore where Samoa Joe pulled him aside to let him know he caught him hard with the move.
“Yeah, there’s a couple. Yeah, I mean, most of the time, everybody walks away with all their teeth intact, unlike Jacob Fatu, or Bleeding Gums Fatu is the nickname. But, yeah, I mean… I caught Samoa Joe real bad one time in a Royal Rumble, ad to be fair, he didn’t say anything. He’s like a man’s man. He just pulled me aside and let me know, hey, brother, you really caught me bad. I felt so guilty because Joe’s my boy. He’s my brother. The few guys I’ve caught real hard that I didn’t feel so guilty about. But most of the time, people were good. But I felt really bad about the one to Joe. I’ve caught Sheamus hard as hell a million times, but he actually enjoys it. I think he gains power the harder you hit him.”
Elsewhere in the same interview, McIntyre recalled being pitched a ‘Runway Man’ gimmick. You can read more about that here.
