Drew McIntyre Was Worried The 2020 Royal Rumble Crowd Would Sour On His Win After Edge's Elimination

The 2020 Royal Rumble was Drew McIntyre's dream come true, he earned the right to main event WrestleMania with thousands of screaming fans cheering him on. However, he was worried that wouldn't happen for him because of another major surprise in that match.

The 2020 Royal Rumble Match also featured the return of Edge after nine years of forced retirement due to injury. Edge was one-third of the final three in the match, along with McIntyre and Roman Reigns.

Speaking with Sportskeeda, Drew McIntyre reveals that he thought the audience was going to turn on the match after the WWE Hall of Famer was eliminated.

"Edge was returning at the end after a nine-year absence from the company. People thought they'd never see him again,” Drew recalls. “He returned at the Rumble and we've seen crowds turn on certain superstars if they don't get the winner that they wanted. So that was in the back of my mind, I guess, while I was out there. That wow... when Edge gets eliminated and it's Drew McIntyre and Roman Reigns, they might just turn on the match.”

Continuing on, McIntyre revealed his desire to have a major one-on-one match with Edge somewhere down the road.

"You know Edge had this amazing career. I was thankful that I traveled the world with him. Learned a lot from him as a kid, but to see him back... of course, the wheels started turning. And I thought to myself, 'Oh yeah, we're going to have that big match.' I'm absolutely ready for that big match now, you know, physically and mentally."

Unfortunately, that match won't be happening anytime soon as Edge suffered a torn triceps muscle in his WWE Backlash 2020 match with Randy Orton. Learn more about that here.
