Dustin Rhodes: WWE Is Like Prison

Dustin Rhodes speaks on his frustrations at the end of his WWE run.

At All Elite Wrestling's Double or Nothing on May 25, Dustin Rhodes stole the show with his brother Cody, engaging in a bloody affair. Cody picked up the victory, but Dustin showed the world that he had something left in the tank. Dustin had been sidelined by WWE for years, partially due to injuries and partly due to "creative has nothing for you." Double or Nothing was a resurrection of sorts for Dustin.

The day after Double or Nothing, Dustin appeared at Starrcast, talking to the folks at Inside The Ropes about his frustrations at the end of his WWE run.

"A lot of people hate their jobs, and a lot of people love their jobs. I love pro wrestling. It's my first love. For the past four years with WWE, I kind of lost my passion," revealed Dustin. "Let's face it, you're sitting in the back and not doing anything and it's hard and frustrating when you have so much to give but time is running out because you're getting older. It sucks when you're not being picked, and you're pitching these ideas to the writers and Vince, and nothing happens. I wanted to do something with substance. Whether I deserved it or not, I don't know, but that's what I wanted. That's where my passion was and I lost it along the way. I wanted out. It was hard to get out. It's like prison. It really is. It's one of the prisons that they take good care of you in, but I needed to go and do something else. They had taken good care of me but I needed to get out, breathe, and find my passion again."

Dustin continued, "[AEW] fell into my lap with [Cody]. When you push for something for so hard, for so long, and they look you dead in the eye and tell you, 'that's not good enough to be on the big show.' It fucking pissed me off. I knew in my heart of hearts that they were wrong. I proved that [at Double or Nothing]."

The former Goldust was on the verge of hanging up his boots following the loss to Cody but was talked out of it by his brother. Instead, Dustin will team with Cody to face The Young Bucks at AEW Fight for the Fallen in July.
