The SAG-AFTRA strike, which started on July 13, 2023, is currently in place due to the studio's unwillingness to pay actors livable wages or provide them with safe working conditions.

Courtney B. Vance, president of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, commented on Johnson's historic contribution to the foundation in a interview with Variety.

“It was a love fest. It’s like, ‘Man, you’re stepping up in a way that is allowing others to know the dire necessity of it.' This is him saying, ‘In such a time as this, I’m here and I’m not going anywhere, whatever you need me to do.’ And that sends a huge message to other folks to do the same thing.”
