EC3 Erased All Memory Of His Main Roster Run Like 'The Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind'

EC3 talks about working with Triple H and Shawn Michaels in NXT and his less-than-stellar time on the main roster.

EC3 resurfaced in WWE as part of NXT in 2018. After a run on the Redemption season of NXT which saw him and Johnny Curtis (Fandango) vying for the affection of Maxine (Catrina), Derrick Bateman was let go by WWE and joined TNA Wrestling where he would get the character of Ethan Carter III which he would later parlay into a career as EC3 outside of IMPACT.

When he returned to WWE, he had the opportunity to participate in a Ladder Match to crown the inaugural NXT North American Champion at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans. Having had time to reflect, EC3 now says that that match was his favorite moment from his second go-around in WWE, as he tells Dr. Chris Featherstone on an episode of Sportskeeda Wrestling's UnSkripted.

“I think my favorite memory from NXT would be the satisfaction of the ladder match for the North American Championship upon coming to the back. Trips [Triple H] and Shawn [Michaels] were there and they're just like 'Wow'. They were super happy and it was a vindication for my long journey back there. What sucked about it is that I started to peak. First thing it was like an awesome moment. That's something I'll never forget. I'll never forget walking the streets of New Orleans drinking whatever, like jungle juice, and the fans were everywhere slapping us on the back. It was just a good night. That match is probably my favorite memory of NXT.”

As for his time on the main roster, EC3 says that he has since blocked out all of the memories of that and has no recollection of any of that, likening it to Jim Carrey's 2004 film, The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

“With WWE [main roster] I've purposely went to my therapist to have it erased from my mind like The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind so I have no recollection of anything that took place in the WWE [Main roster],” said EC3.

Since ending his time in WWE, EC3 has embarked on a mission to help other wrestlers create their own narrative and become free. Most recently, the Free The Narrative series centered around a recently-released Braun Strowman.

EC3 spoke with Sean Ross Sapp about the Free The Narrative series. You can check out the full interview at this link.
