El Cuervo De Puerto Rico Returns, Wins CWA World Title One Year After Cinder Block Incident

One year after a horrific accident in the ring, El Cuervo De Puerto Rico is back and already won a title.

Cuervo returned to the ring at CWA’s Christmas Showdown show in Dorado, Puerto Rico on December 14, winning the CWA world title in a three-way match that involved Mike Nice and Manuel Rodriguez.

In November 2018 on a wrestling show in Mexico, Cuervo was blindsided by a cinder block thrown by Angel o Demonio. Demonio was in the ring and tossed the block at Cuervo, who was outside the ring with his back turned to Demonio. Cuervo had to undergo surgery for a blood clot and has spent the last year recovering and rehabbing for an eventual return to the ring.

On December 3, Cuervo initially announced his retirement from the sport on Facebook, but the post was deleted and clarified on December 4, saying that he isn't retired and fully healthy to return to the ring, thanking everyone who reacted to the news of his initial retirement.

Cuervo's agent Victor Arroyo also clarified the story to Fightful, saying Cuervo made a rash decision but after talking with Arroyo and seeing the fan support, he will continue on the comeback trail. Cuervo was previously a five-time WWC Tag Team Champion.
