El Desperado Thought He Would Take More Time Off Following Eye Surgery

El Desperado discusses his recent surgery.

El Desperado is set to challenge Hiromu Takahashi for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18. The challenge was issued at NJPW Power Struggle, with Hiromu nominating Desperado as his challenger. Desperado noted he needed to get eye surgery before the bout.

Speaking to NJPW, Desperado commented on the surgery and how he's doing.

"Still off," he said of his vision. "If I look up with my eyes, then my right and left eyes move different distances, so I get double vision. Straight ahead I’m OK though."

Asked about Hiromu challenge, Desperado said, "Honestly I did think the timing sucked. My surgery date was set, so I was thinking of taking the time off if all I had at Wrestle Kingdom was the Ranbo. With all the people in that thing, you never know what could happen, especially with bad eyesight, so I was thinking that would be my chance to take more time off. It would look pretty bad if I turned it down right before the main event. It would have made Hiromu look bad too- and in all honesty it was my bad for not communicating with the company well enough- I told them about the surgery but not how much time I was thinking of taking off."

Desperado is 4-3 against Takahashi in singles competition. Their last singles match was at Best Of The Super Junior 29 Final in 2022 with Takahashi picking up the victory. Desperado defeated Takahashi at Wrestle Kingdom 16.
