Elias: I Would Get Personally Offended When Guys Like Undertaker And Shawn Michaels Came Back

Elias has shared the ring with the Undertaker, but plans for a match between the two ended up being nixed in favor of Undertaker vs. Goldberg.

WWE brings back legends every year for WrestleMania or Saudi Arabia shows and Elias used to take exception to them taking spots at big events or not working enough with the current generation before he understood the reasoning behind it all.

Lineup And Bracket Announced For New Japan Cup 2021

"This is going to sound, maybe, selfish. When guys like Undertaker, Kane, Shawn Michaels would come back, I would get personally offended by that," Elias told Lilian Garcia on Chasing Glory. "The reason was; I should be in there with those guys and learning from and they should be passing on the knowledge or they just shouldn't be there because it's the new guy's time. I had a little bit of anger towards that generation. I'm thinking, 'I'm getting the loudest reactions and I'm the young guy, and here come these guys taking spots at WrestleMania and big pay-per-views, and Elias is shoved to the side.' I had anger about that. I thought, 'can they not just help out or step aside?' Then I saw the interview with Undertaker and how he's aware of that as well. He knows the young guys want his spot and he also knows that he has to let it go because his body has been through it, but he also loves the business so much and you can relate to that. Let me put myself in this situation; getting paid incredibly well, one of the best of all-time, the fans go absolutely insane for the guy. It softens me and I get it. I don't have the anger that I had before. In theory, I could strum a guitar when I'm 50 years old if WWE wants me to do that. It really changed my perspective on that aspect."

Elias previously revealed that he was supposed to step in the ring with John Cena at WrestleMania 36 before plans changed. Instead, Cena took on Bray Wyatt in a Firefly Fun House match while Elias wrestled King Corbin.

Elsewhere during the podcast, Elias recalled those in charge at NXT wanting him fired just as he got in the door. You can find his full comments on the situation by clicking here.
