Eric Bischoff Says He And WWE Writers Watched AEW Dynamite

Eric Bischoff has stated that he watched AEW programming while he worked for WWE.

Back in the summer of 2019, Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff were revealed as being pegged for Executive Director roles for WWE Raw and SmackDown, respectively. Bischoff only worked for WWE in that capacity for a few months, but does share an interesting tidbit from his time in WWE. Speaking to Tony Khan in a special stream ahead of the AEW Fight For The Fallen show on July 15, Bischoff said he watched AEW Dynamite and NXT at the same time with a number of WWE writers.

“I do want to say this, one of the things that I think has distinguished [AEW] from anybody else, even when I was with WWE last year, I sat down and watched both shows side-by-side and I was working with WWE at the time and I was watching it in a writer’s conference room with a bunch of other writers,” Bischoff said.

Critiquing AEW nowadays, Bischoff had good things to say about the promotion, commenting on the production value and the way it has embraced the audience, atmosphere and venue that they are in.

“One of the first things that I noticed was that [AEW] is handling the production so much better. When I watched the show during COVID, the way they’re shooting the show, it’s tighter, [they] embrace the venue instead of camouflaging it. Somebody asked, ‘What did you think?’ I told him what I thought. [AEW] feels more like live TV and feels gritty enough to convince me it's live. It feels gritty enough to feel like it’s live,” Bischoff said.

Fight For The Fallen will take place on July 15 and feature Jon Moxley vs. Brian Cage for the AEW World Championship. Fightful will have live coverage of Fight For The Fallen.
