Erick Rowan Said He Would Have Liked To Wrestle In Mexico More

Erick Rowan once desired to spend plenty of time wrestling in Mexico.

During an interview with SuperLuchas, Rowan talked about how he once thought about potentially wrestling in Mexico after touring there with Pro Wrestling NOAH years ago. Due to his responsibilities as a father, Rowan never got to fully sign with a Mexican company.

"Well, in 2007, I did two tours in Japan with Pro Wrestling NOAH and on one of those tours, they took a few guys to AAA. During that time, I thought it would be an interesting company to work for, but due to the time I had to dedicate to my son as a single father, adjusting to [Mexico] wasn't in the cards at the time. But yeah, I would have liked to work in CMLL or even AAA," Rowan said.

Mexican wrestling does carry the tradition of having matches where something dear to a wrestler would have been on the line, like a mask or their hair. In Rowan's case, he was asked whether or not he would have been ok with putting his beard on the line and Rowan rejected such a reality.

"An astute man never bets. There's always a small possibility that something goes wrong and my beard is something very important to me. As such, I don't think I would have bet my beard for anything. In that case, I would have just bet something else," Rowan said.

Obviously, Rowan never got to have a permanent stay in Mexico as he signed with WWE several years later, winning the SmackDown Tag Team titles twice. The full interview, in Spanish, can be read at this link.
