ESPN Exec Says They’re ‘Certainly Game’ To Have Conversations About Adding More WWE PLEs To Event Calendar

Adding more WWE PLEs to the event calendar is not being ruled out.

A media call took place on 9/17 featuring ESPN executives Matt Kenny and J.T. Lasker. Along the way, WrestleZone’s Bill Pritchard asked about the idea of adding more WWE Premium Live Events to the ESPN broadcast event calendar.

WWE and ESPN reached a five-year deal to bring WWE’s PLEs to ESPN’s new direct-to-consumer service. Pritchard specifically mentioned that there’s a Saturday Night’s Main Event special on Peacock in December, but not a PLE, and if they’d be interested in placing an event there.

Matt Kenny stated that they knew what they were getting into with acquiring the PLEs, but if adding more events is a route WWE wants to take, ESPN is game.

“Yeah, I think anything along those lines will bear itself out in just more forward-looking scheduling conversations that we’ll get into with the WWE over time. But I think just to put a fine point on that answer, we knew what we were signing up for when we acquired the PLEs. The PLEs are incredibly invaluable and we understand the importance of those shows to help fuel our direct-to-consumer business so, we’re excited about the schedule of events that WWE puts forth for the PLEs, and if there’s conversations to be had about evolving that, then we’re certainly game to doing that.”
