ESPN VP Describes WWE PLEs As ‘Bankable VOD’ Content, Can’t Provide Insight Into ESPN’s Interest In WWE’s Full Library

ESPN VP is currently focused on the PLE content.
Coming up for WWE is its Wrestlepalooza Premium Live Event on September 20th. It is the first PLE that’ll air on ESPN’s new direct-to-consumer service as part of WWE’s new five-year deal with ESPN.
A media call took place on 9/17, and one of the ESPN representatives on the call was the network’s Vice President of Programming and Acquisitions, Matt Kenny. He was asked if there is interest in acquiring more of WWE’s library in the same way that Peacock did. The WWE-ESPN deal is just for Premium Live Events.
“You know, I think for us, the rights that we have are for the Premium Live Events and those will be called bankable V.O.D. so as the events take place on our platforms, we’ll be able to offer those events on demand, and so that library, our PLE library will build over time. But in terms of the broader library, I would direct your question to the WWE to handle. But, we’re excited to start populating, building, curating a robust digital offering for WWE fans on our platforms.”
Fightful will have live written and audio coverage of Wrestlepalooza here on the site.
