NXT Takeover is back for WrestleMania weekend in New York, and they're bringing the heat
Five huge matches are confirmed for the event, all for championships. However, the show didn't get the headliner that it originally was pegged for.
Due to a severe injury to NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa, the title has been vacated. Original challenger Johnny Gargano remains, but his new opponent is Undisputed Era leader Adam Cole, who defeated several top contenders to get into the match.
Two of those contenders were NXT North American Champion Velveteen Dream and Fightful Alumni Matt Riddle. With those two out of the NXT Championship picture, that gave room for Riddle to challenge for the NXT North American Title in one of the most highly anticipated matches of the weekend.
The Dusty Rhodes Tag Classic saw new team Aleister Black & Ricochet emerge victorious and land an NXT Tag Team Championship match against the War Raiders in what many expect to be a farewell match for the former.
NXT UK has had the same champion for almost two years in Pete Dunne, but hefty newcomer WALTER looks to knock off the man who has held the United Kingdom Championship for all but four months of its existence.
Shayna Baszler has dominated the NXT women's division over the last year, outside of a two month period where Kairi Sane held the championship. Sane will get another crack at the title, but not by herself. Instead, Bianca Belair and Io Shirai round out the field as Baszler looks to clear out the division.
