NXT and EVOLVE both will be holding events in San Antonio during the same weekend that WWE holds its Royal Rumble pay-per-view in that city.
These events officially were announced earlier this week.
WWE announced that its NXT brand would hold an event on Saturday, Jan. 28, the night before the Rumble, in the Freeman Coliseum. Though not confirmed, this might be another NXT Takeover, considering that it has become standard for NXT to hold one of its special Takeover events the night before a major WWE pay-per-view. NXT held a Takeover the night before WrestleMania and Summerslam this year, and has another scheduled for Toronto in November the night before Survivor Series takes place.
WWE is promoting travel packages for Royal Rumble weekend that include a front-row ticket to the Rumble, hotel accommodations, admission to an autograph breakfast and behind the scenes tour prior to the pay-per-view, and a ticket to the NXT event.
Both of the EVOLVE events will take place at The Woodlawn Gym, located about 6 miles from the Alamodome, the venue for the Royal Rumble. Specific dates and times have not been announced, nor have tickets gone on sale.
EVOLVE, an independent promotion run by Gabe Sapolsky, has been working with WWE for more than a calendar year. EVOLVE also has piggybacked off major WWE pay-per-views to hold events, doing so during the weekends of Summerslam and the Royal Rumble this year, in addition to the past few WrestleManias.
