AEW Has Had FTR vs. Santana & Ortiz Set For Charlotte Dynamite For Months

AEW has had a big tag team match in their back pocket for quite a while.

Fightful Select reported on the general nature of AEW's long-term planning, as indicated by a big match on tonight's episode of AEW Dynamite.

The Elite: We're Getting AEW Back To What It Was Supposed To Be

As the Pinnacle vs. Inner Circle feud rolls on, a highly anticipated match between FTR and Santana and Ortiz is taking place on the July 28 Dynamite. Fightful has learned that this specific matchup has been slated and on the billing for the Charlotte Dynamite since at least mid-May, highlighting the long-term planning of a lot of AEW's booking. Fightful was told in early 2020 that some AEW programs, matches and feuds were booked months in advance, and obviously the pandemic threw a wrench into many of those plans. However, we're told much of what was planned actually happened. To further that, we're told of a singles program already tentatively set for the fall.

Dax Harwood has been battling arm issues throughout most of the year, but has worked through it. This will be FTR's first two-on-two match since June 6, and their first two on two match on Dynamite since February.
