Alex Hammerstone Talks Potential Match With Bobby Lashley, Returning to Japan, And His Wrestling Future

Alex Hammerstone talks about Bobby Lashley and potentially wanting to return to Japan.

Like Bobby Lashley, Alex Hammerstone is a former World Heavyweight Champion and fits the physical perception of what most people consider a heavyweight wrestler. Lashley is currently with AEW and has developed a disdain for someone from Hammerstone's past, MJF.

Speaking in an interview with Sean Ross Sapp, Hammerstone discussed his pride when fans believe he could compete with Bobby Lashley if the storyline called for MJF to reunite Dynasty with Hammerstone and Richard Hollday in AEW.

"I mean, it's a huge honor. I don't have much of a relationship with Bobby. I think I've only met him in passing, but he's definitely someone I'd love to work with. Obviously, you talk about angles like that that just seem like tailor-made. It's like the world is just coming together to be like, ‘Here's this thing you could do.’ It's kind of guaranteed to work to some extent.

"That being said, who knows. I'm in a very exciting position where I'm you know branching out and working with a lot of companies, but even just the MLW stuff right now, there's talks of me going down to CMLL. There's talks of me going to New Japan with them. There's so much stuff that's open to me right now that I'm just trying to take it all in and take it one step at a time and see what happens. I'm open to a lot of things, but I'm just trying to make sure I keep myself in a position where I'm able to put my best foot forward. Because I know what it's like to not enjoy it and not put my best foot forward," he said.

Hammerstone participated in the N-1 Victory tournament for NOAH in 2019. He says he would like to return to Japan if the right situation arises, but he doesn't want to spend too much time away from home.

"Yeah, 2019 was the last time I was there, and I've had opportunities. That being said, I have become increasingly a homebody over my years, which is something you wouldn't expect of a pro wrestler. You think they’d get more used to being on the road, but I don't want to be away from my girlfriend and dog for six weeks. I'm looking at like two weeks max, and you know, a lot of companies right now are in the position where they're trying to bring guys out for longer-term deals, and even that two weeks is mentally like, ‘Ooh, that's a long time.’ So we'll see what happens. I'm open to it, like I said, it's just gotta be the right situation."

Hammerstone will take on Japanese legend Satoshi Kojima at MLW Azteca Lucha on Saturday, May 10. Fightful will have full coverage of the event.
