Drew McIntyre Learned About Big Show WrestleMania Match Shortly Before It Happened

Drew McIntyre talks about his WrestleMania main event against the Big Show that aired the following night on Monday Night Raw.

WrestleMania 36 was the most unique WrestleMania in history. Being the first WrestleMania to take place across two nights and being the only WrestleMania to ever take place in front of no crowd from the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, Drew McIntyre found himself in uncharted waters as WWE was looking to establish him as the top guy during the most unforeseen circumstances to hit society in a generation.

IPW Defiance Results (4/21): Multiple Title Matches

After Drew McIntyre defeated Brock Lesnar in about 5 minutes on WrestleMania Sunday, it was announced the following night on Monday Night Raw that another match took place at WrestleMania and WWE wood are a match between Drew McIntyre and The Big Show, who interrupted Drew McIntyre during his championship celebration, as the official main event of WrestleMania 36.

Speaking about this moment with Sean Ross Sapp in an exclusive interview, Drew McIntyre reveals he found out at the very last moment what was happening and it was filmed very close to when it actually hit the airwaves.

"I found out at the very last moment and when it was happening the next day. When they filmed, it was very close to the match with Brock, it very close to when it aired is when we put the match together and I liked it. We were establishing Drew McIntyre and what I was going to be as champion. I just defeated Brock Lesnar in five minutes and then the giant walks out, who has been around for a long time, kind of a gatekeeper to say, 'I'm going to see what you're really made of.' I beat Brock Lesnar and the giant, two of them in one night. After that, everyone thinks about it, Drew McIntyre can realistically say, 'I went into WestleMania and beat Big Show and Brock Lesnar back to back within 20 minutes.'"

Competing in this match at WrestleMania allowed Paul Wight to be one of the only men to compete at WrestleMania during 4 different decades. Now, Paul is in AEW as a broadcaster and part-time wrestler.

The next major event Drew McIntyre is already thinking about is SummerSlam 2022, where he says he wants Willie Nelson to play him to the ring. Learn more here.
