Edge Remembers Dressing Up As Umaga, Surprising Him, And Raking Hurricane's Back For A Whole Match

The Canadian Backraker doesn't quite have the same ring to it as The Samoan Bulldozer.

That didn't stop Edge. The WWE Hall of Famer recently recounted a memory from a January 2009 live event in Kentucky when he surprised the late Umaga when they were teaming with one another. Fightful participated in a Q&A session where Edge & Christian both shared thoughts and memories.

"It was in Rupp Arena, and I was teaming with Umaga in the main event against the Great Khali and Hurricane -- that was the MAIN EVENT," said Edge. "Roster was a little thin!"

It should be noted that the main event was actually a steel cage match between Undertaker and Big Show. But what they had to follow wasn't so simple.

Christian asked "What was Hurricane doing in there?!"

"Hurricane was the one you were concerned with!?," Edge replied. "I didn't let Khali in that match, I just held on to Hurricane the whole time! I painted myself as Umaga and put "CANADA" on my stomach, and put tribal paint on and put my hair straight up. He didn't see me until I walked out."

Edge wasn't done there. He also clued in the ring announcer, and made sure that he got the proper introduction in order to maximize his potential.

"He was the 'Samoan Bulldozer,' so I had them announce me as the 'Canadian Backraker.' I proceeded to rake Hurricane's back the entire match. I was making noise and stomping with it, and Hurricane was wearing a shirt, which defeats the whole purpose, but I did it anyway," said Edge.

Edge said that Umaga's facial expression was priceless, and that he's kept a photo that a fan gave him to this day, highlighting the moment.
