Edge Remembers Going Over Road Agent To Pitch Vince McMahon Idea For Summerslam 2001 Match

Sometimes Vince McMahon is set in his ways, other times, he can be convinced. WWE Hall of Famer Edge says that he's had pretty good luck in the past with the latter.

On his way to major WrestleMania moments, world titles, and the aforementioned Hall of Fame, Edge had his fair share of creative, important moments. He recently participated in a Q&A with longtime tag team partner Christian, which Fightful took part in. Edge was asked about taking ideas and pitches to Vince McMahon personally, and looked back on doing so three years into his WWE career for one of the first times.

"Luckily when I did, they were things that usually ended up working. One of the first instances I can remember, I was wrestling Lance Storm at Summerslam. In putting the match together, we were in the midst of the King of the Ring trophy and the jealousy brewing between Edge and Christian. I felt (Christian) needed to come down and look like he was trying to get Lance, or was he? That was a pivotal moment for the match and the storyline. Our agent at the time was a guy who just started and I knew he wasn't going to tell them our ideas. I went straight to Vince and said I think it's important and great for the match, and he said 'go for it.' We did it, and (Christian) came in and speared me, said he didn't mean to, and slammed the trophy in my stomach. He said he didn't do it that hard, watch it back! At a rate of 50 MPH!" said Edge.

Despite the backfired interference, Edge would go on to pin Lance Storm to win the WWF Intercontinental Championship. He'd drop it just one month later at Unforgiven to Christian.
