Goldenboy Santos Explains How The Mentality And Footwork In Basketball Helped Him In Wrestling

Goldenboy Santos explains what aspects of basketball helped prepare him for pro wrestling.

For many professional wrestlers, they have played other sports at a high level, with the athleticism needed for said sports helping prepare wrestlers for what is required in the ring. Goldenboy Santos previously played basketball before becoming a professional wrestler, and believes that several aspects of the game helped prepare him for wrestling.

While speaking to Fightful's Corey Brennan in a recent interview, Goldenboy explained how basketball helped him with his footwork and mentality during his wrestling training.

"In technical parts, I think footwork was the most important one. The way I move in the ring can be smoother in the beginning because I'm used to being aware of how I place my feet or the way I move, the space that I take. So that can really help, especially in the beginning. The other thing is just, I think it's the mentality because it's the more important thing. Like, just get used to the grind because I think it can be a cliche, but it's kind of the truth. Like, you go out there every day and you do what you have to do and you wait for the results. If you keep working, the results will eventually come, no matter what the time that it takes. Yeah. If you put in the work and if you do your part every day, the results are going to come."

Santos has been a familiar face on the European independent scene, wrestling for OTT, wXw and several promotions in Portugal.

Elsewhere in his interview with Fightful, Santos reflected on being trained by WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther. You can read more about that here.
