HYAN reflects on training with KUSHIDA at the NJPW LA Djo and being more focused on "adding color to her life" rather than signing a major contract.
HYAN recently spoke with Fightful's Scott Edwards ahead of the NJPW Fighting Spirit Unleashed event on October 28. During the interview, she reflected on training with KUSHIDA during a seminar at the LA dojo and just missing Mercedes Mone, who trained in the session the morning before she arrived
"I saw that KUSHIDA was running a seminar at the LA Dojo, and it just so happened that I had a show in LA that weekend too, so I was like, ‘perfect, I’m going to change my flight," she recalled. "I’m going to get there a little bit early.’ I get there, and it was super cool, but I was a little bummed out because I was in the PM session because I got there early that day, and I guess the AM session had Mercedes Mone, and I was like, ‘Is she still here?’ ‘No, she left.’ I was so bummed. ‘I was this close.’ The seminar was a lot of fun. KUSHIDA is very knowledgable. It’s funny because he was like, ‘Are you a luchador? Do you train in Mexico?’ ‘No.’ ‘You have really good rolls.’ ‘Thank you.’"
HYAN also said that at this stage in her career, she is more focused on having cool life experiences like spending time in England and Germany, and wrestling for New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
"In my brain, especially now, I don’t see my career being like, ‘I want to get signed to this company,’ or chasing a contract. That was very much me when I first started. Now, I just want to add color to my life. Adding color is going and spending three months in England, a month in Germany, wrestling for New Japan. I was jokingly telling my friends, ‘I can retire after this, what else is there to do?’"
HYAN most recently wrestled Giula in a losing effort in a match for the NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship at NJPW Fighting Spirit Unleashed on October 28.
