Joe Gacy Credits Terry Taylor For 'Flipping His Brain' And Helping Shape The Performer He Is Today

Joe Gacy talks about the switch over to NXT 2.0 and singles out one coach in particular who has helped him find that next gear.

Joe Gacy has become one of the top stars of NXT 2.0. He has already challenged for the NXT Championship and kidnapped WWE Hall of Famer Rick Steiner all in an effort to make his name in WWE.

In a new interview with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, Gacy, a noted independent performer before joining WWE, admits that he came into the WWE Performance Center with one particular mindset but is excited about the direction the brand is taken with the 2.0 rebranding and says he's excited about carrying the torch into the next era of WWE NXT.

“Honestly, very excited. I know NXT 2.0 was very new and some people were a little unsure about it at first. I like to think that, me being, sort of one of the faces of it, me and a lot of the other guys and girls here now, we took on a challenge and I honestly think things are great. The new NXT is very intriguing and we still have the same passion that the same people who used to be here had. We’re taking that torch, so to speak, and carrying it on into the next era of NXT,” he said.

Additionally, Gacy goes on to credit his coaches, specifically Terry Taylor, for helping flip his mindset in regards to professional wrestling. In the past, Seth Rollins has gone on record with similar comments regarding Terry Taylor. Gacy also credits names like Norman Smiley and Finlay for helping shape the performer he is currently.

“I have to say, one of my coaches, Terry Taylor, he flipped my brain a little bit," said Gacy. "I came into WWE having one mindset and working with him and all the coaches, coaches like Fit Finlay and Normal Smiley, have all added a little recipe into my brain. Working with Terry Taylor is what really started making things click for me, personally. That made me look at things in a new perspective, which kind of built the Joe Gacy you see today.”

Gacy continues to push for his revolution every Tuesday night on WWE NXT. Fightful has live coverage of WWE NXT 2.0 as it airs on the USA Network, beginning every Tuesday at 8 p.m. eastern time.
