KiLynn King: Texting Mickie James Helped Open The Door For Me In NWA

KiLynn King describes how she started working with NWA.

King frequently competed on AEW Dark in 2020 and 2021, but she eventually started to bet on herself by focusing on opportunities elsewhere. Following her NWA debut at the EmPowerrr event in 2021, she increasingly started working for them in March 2022. Since then, King has become a featured member of the company's women's division, and she has challenged for the NWA World Women's Championship at two pay-per-views.

Speaking with Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp, King discussed how her move to NWA came about. She noted that her AEW dates started to dwindle, so she reached out to Mickie James, who had been the executive producer for NWA EmPowerrr. King made it clear that she was looking for work in order to build her name, and the NWA contacted her a week later.

"So a lot of people thought I had been signed to AEW because I had done so much work with them. I remember when I was doing less and less from them and I wasn’t hearing from anybody, I was getting really worried. I’m like, ‘Why don’t people want to work with me?’ So I had Mickie James’ number from Empowerrr. So I texted her and said, ‘Hey, I just found out recently that people think I’m signed. I’m not and I’m looking to work other places. I want to build my name and my brand.’ She’s like, ‘Oh, I did not know that. Okay. Cool.’ So a week later I got an e-mail from NWA and that’s how that all came about. Just sent a text message and the ball got rolling," King said.

King went on to name Jazz as one of the most helpful people she's worked with in NWA. She described how Jazz keeps an eye on her and gives her advice. King also noted that Jazz is both an agent and a locker room leader.

"Probably Jazz. She’s always looking out for me. Any match I’m put into, she always keeps an eye on it, like, ‘Hey, how are you doing?’ Giving me such great advice and leading me and stuff like that. She’s an agent, yeah. You always wear multiple hats when you work with companies. But in regards to her helping me, she’s always been an agent / locker room leader," King said.

King also stated that she loves Jazz and the way she doesn't have a filter.
