Matt Cardona: I Keep Evolving, I Wanna Come Back With A Different Coat Of Paint

Matt Cardona is several characters wrapped into one. He's been an Edge Head and an underdog, an Intercontinental Champion and an Indie God.

Matt Cardona's character, even from his very first matches in WWECW, has evolved tremendously over the years. It's featured a variety of tweaks and twerks, edits and additions. That evolution, Cardona says, is the key to his character getting over, and staying over.

Cardona recently spoke with Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp at the Squared Circle Expo, and he talked about how important it is to come back with slightly different -- or very different -- characters, depending on the situation.

"It's tough, I'll be honest. It's tough. I keep evolving. Even when I got hurt last year, I'm like, ‘I can't come back as the Indie God in the Deathmatch.’ I mean, I could, but I wanna come back with a different coat of paint. That's why it's Matt Cardona, it's everything all wrapped into one, whether it be the Edgeheads, Major Brothers, the Zack Ryder, Broski, Deathmatch King, Indie God, it's just all one thing. But it's tough, it's tough, you know? How many times can I win this promotion's title? How many times can I be Indie Wrestler of the Year? It’s like, alright, even I'm getting sick of myself," Cardona said.

Incidentally, Cardona has won Fightful's 'Indy Act of the Year' all three year's of the awards' existence.

Cardona recently competed in the TNA X-Division Title Ultimate X Match at TNA Rebellion. Fans get read up on the results of that show here.

Cardona's wife, Chelsea Green, recently told the Indy God that he looks like Tan Mom.
