Maya World: 2015 Sasha Banks Inspired Me To Become A Pro Wrestler

Maya World discusses who inspired her to become a professional wrestler.

At just 21 years old, Maya is one of many young prospects in professional wrestling. Only being a year into her career, Maya is very much a product of the increased focus on women's wrestling over the course of the past decade.

While speaking to Fightful's Corey Brennan in a recent interview, Maya spoke about the influence The Four Horsewomen had in inspiring her to begin wrestling.

"Definitely 2015, Sasha Banks. That was my girl. I was the biggest fan of her, just her style. Her swagger, her, just her wrestling. You know, she was an amazing wrestler. Definitely that era is what inspired me to watch, even sorry, inspired me to start wrestling. Even though i watched it before that. But whenever i saw them in the Four Horsewomen coming up, I was like, yeah, I want to do this."

Mercedes Mone is currently scheduled to face off with Willow Nightingale at AEW Double Or Nothing later this month. When asked about this big matchup, Maya noted that it also inspires her to see two powerful black women facing off, expressing that she hopes the two main event the PPV.

"Oh, just Mercedes, the fact that she is definitely the reason that I'm a wrestler and also Willow who's like fought and clawed for everything. Fought and clawed for everything that she has been given, which I feel like she's more me in that scenario versus Mercedes who's like more of like a celebrity type thing, you know but it's definitely cool to see two black women and it's not even just in AEW, obviously it's in WWE too and in Impact but just seeing those two and Willow, who deserves this so much. So I'm excited for that. Hopefully they main event because they definitely deserve that um but yeah, that's that's really cool to see though. They had a great segment yesterday on AEW that I watched. Watched live at the Dallas Wings game because i was just so excited to see that."
