New UFC Signing Jeff Hughes Declares His Love For NJPW, WCW

Jeff Hughes is now on the UFC roster, but he could have very well ended up on your television screen weekly on pro wrestling programming.

When speaking to Fightful.com ahead of his March 9 UFC debut, the heavyweight says that his 10-1 MMA career almost didn't happen because he actually considered making a run as a wrestler.

"When I was 18 or 19, I was at a fork in the road where I could train wrestling or MMA. I'm happy with the decision that I made, but I still love pro wrestling. I still love New Japan. I listen to Bruce Prichard's show, Eric Bischoff, Tony Schiavone. I still watch WrestleMania every year. (Some of my favorites), I gotta go with AJ Styles, he's awesome to watch. I like Seth Rollins. My all time favorite is Razor Ramon, Scott Hall," said Hughes.

If Hughes were to make the move, his happy-go-lucky personality wouldn't be what he would project.

"In real life, I'm kind of a babyface, but being a heel is easier. You get to yell at the fans and be a dick. I used to go to WCW shows. I went to two Nitros. The last one I went to, we had the worst seats in the place, and we got to move up to the front row. Ric Flair vs. Lex Luger in the main event," Hughes said.

Jeff Hughes will take on Daniel Spitz on UFC Wichita against Daniel Spitz. Fightful MMA will have full, live coverage of the show.
