Thatcher had not wrestled since the August 24, 2021 episode of NXT, but had been helping on the coaching side while off television. He was regularly teaming with former NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa before being off TV.

Thatcher was signed by WWE in February 2020. He made his TV debut on the April 15, 2020 episode of NXT when he was the replacement partner for Riddle due to Pete Dunne being unable to travel as a result of COVID restrictions.

Thatcher famously competed in two NXT Fight Pit matches where he defeated Riddle and Ciampa.

WWE gave the following statement regarding changes to the Performance Center staff:

"With the continued evolution of NXT 2.0, we've decided to part ways with some of the staff based in our Performance Center. We thank them for their many contributions throughout the years and wish them the best."
