Tons Of Behind The Scenes News On WOW Relaunch: Tessa Blanchard, Viacom, AJ Lee

After a year and a half as a free agent, Tessa Blanchard has a landing point and eith the help of a major network in CBS Viacom, WOW is back on track for a return, althought we'd been told is not supposed to take place until well into 2022.

Fightful learned that a relaunch of WOW Women of Wrestling would be announced imminently, which happened October 6.

We've also learned that the "NGW" teasers that were running are connected to the WOW relaunch, as they are one in the same. LA Lakers owner Jeanie Buss has been attached to to the project as she still technically owns the company.

The relaunch itself has been known about within women's wrestling circles for months, as several additional names were contacted for the project, but none ended up landing outside of Blanchard.

After the group lost their television deal with AXS, Fightful was told by numerous people who were involved in the product that they had no contact with WOW in the year-plus that they'd been absent from the public scene. Within WOW, there were numerous accusations of bullying from Blanchard, who wrestled one match since April 2020.

Ahead of the announcement, Fightful learned that The Beast, real name Twana Barnett-Ferguson was set for the project. The 44 year-old former WOW Wrestling Champion has exclusively wrestled for the promotion, as best we can tell, and doesn't appear to have competed since the last WOW Women of Wrestling show in October 2019.

At the presser itself, all of the details in this report were confirmed, and AJ Lee was announced, which was the most noteworthy point with her as executive producer in the project. Fightful has learned that the two sides were scheduled for a meeting at the end of August to discuss the move. We're not told of any specific duties for AJ as of yet, but already heard from one other promoter interested in booking her on screen if she's open to a return.
