"Fabulous Moolah Battle Royal" Story Caught The Attention Of Dark Side Of The Ring's Evan Husney

Moolah's story will be told once again on the next episode of Dark Side Of The Ring.

The season finale of Dark Side Of The Ring will tell the story of WWF and NWA Hall Of Famer Fabulous Moolah. Moolah's name brought up a great deal of controversy during the Spring of 2018 as the WWE named their women's Battle Royal at WrestleMania 34 the "Fabulous Moolah Battle Royal". This led to fans, sponsors and others coming out and protesting that the name of the battle royal be changed because of Moolah's history in the wrestling business that reportedly has to do with sex trafficking and drugging her trainees among other stories.

The reaction to Moolah last year caught the attention of Dark Side Of The Ring Executive Producer Evan Husney and during an interview with Cinema Blend, he explained that the controversy surrounding Fabulous Moolah had so many perspectives which fit all the criteria they needed for an episode about her.

"Shortly after they announced that, tons of fans and people online and other stories began to surface around the Fabulous Moolah's history and her legacy, and most of them were negative, obviously, coming out of the Me Too movement a little bit, and looking at a time in our culture when we're reexamining legacies, and having the conversation of separating art from artists, and those type of things. That, to us, was kind of interesting to have in the wrestling space, in that it was a very topical approach to looking at the Fabulous Moolah. Because there are so many perspectives on it, it began to look like it would fit all the criteria we had for an episode of this show." He said.
