Finn Balor Respects John Cena's Approach In Signing SummerSlam Contract, Hopes For Triple Threat

Finn Balor seemed set for a WWE Universal Championship bout against Roman Reigns at SummerSlam, but it was not meant to be.

Balor was going to sign the contract to face Reigns when he was attacked by Baron Corbin. Corbin nearly signed the contract for himself, but he was thwarted by John Cena, who ended up signing the contract to get a match against Reigns at SummerSlam.

Speaking on WWE Die Woche, Balor was asked if he was upset that Cena took his spot.

"Of course, but in the same situation, I'm sure I would have done the same. I have to respect that and respect the approach he came with. I do believe that myself and Roman have unfinished business. Roman accepted the challenge. It may not be SummerSlam, but I'm sure we'll get down to business once Roman and John is handled," he said.

When asked who he would rather face coming out of SummerSlam, Balor replied, "I'm not sure the possibility of a triple threat is off the cards right now, so if we could somehow finagle that, that would be fantastic. If not, the one reason I'm in SmackDown is to become Universal Champion. Roman Reigns is who I want. I've wrestled John before and wrestled Roman before. What I want is to become the Universal Champion."

Balor will get a chance to settle the score against Corbin on Friday's SmackDown when they meet in singles competition.

Fightful will have live coverage of WWE SmackDown beginning at 8 p.m. ET on Friday.
