Finn Bálor Recalls Being In WWE NXT, Says NJPW Offered Him Royalty Check For $118

Bálor had been in NXT for eight months at this point.

One of the subjects delved into during Cody Rhodes and Finn Bálor’s chat on What Do You Wanna Talk About? was Bálor’s role in the formation and success of the BULLET CLUB faction.

Bálor recalls departing NJPW and joining WWE’s NXT brand, stating that about eight months into his tenure with the brand, he received a call from NJPW liaison and former referee Tiger Hattori. Hattori had a $118 royalty check to present to Bálor.

Looking back at that, Bálor said the payoff of what BULLET CLUB morphed into was bigger than any payout he could have received from it.

“I was in NXT about eight months, and I get a call from New Japan, and they’re like, ‘Hey Devitt. Aye! Devitt-chan, we got royalty check for you man.’ I’m like, ‘Woah! I got a royalty check from New Japan?’ I said, ‘Tiger, thank you so much. How much am I due?’ He goes, ‘Ah, like $118.’ I’m like, ‘$118?’ He goes, ‘Yeah man, we need your bank details.’ I said, ‘Tiger, give it to charity. I don’t need it. I’m good,” Bálor laughed. “So I feel like the payoff with BULLET CLUB, for me at least, was not financial, but, I feel like it was way more valuable than any dollar amount that I could have been given, from just what it’s given to the business.”

Bálor is a member of The Judgment Day faction on Monday Night Raw. Bálor last wrestled in November as part of ‘The Last Time is Now’ tournament.
