Former NXT and Universal Champion Finn Balor recently spoke with ESPN about his upcoming WWE return. The alter-ego of the Demon King said everything is "on schedule" for Wrestlemania, but he also teased a possible return about two months earlier.
There's been a lot of speculation about exactly when we might see Finn again. “You know, that’s obviously a huge rumor, and I would never be one to fuel the rumor mills,” he said playfully, “But to be a surprise entrant in the Rumble would be a huge moment for me. I’m sure it would create quite a buzz.”
“But right now with the condition my shoulder is in," he said, "I’m not willing to risk sustaining any more long-term injury, just for the sake of two or three weeks. Since I got hurt, it was six months (until he could return). The target was to be back for WrestleMania. Everything’s on plan, everything’s on schedule.”
Of course, that doesn't mean Finn is ruling out the possibility that he could heal quicker than expected. “If the day of the Royal Rumble, Vince McMahon says, ‘You got your gear with you?’ Then I’m sure I’ll be around,” he teased.
However, he cautioned: “It’s not something I want to risk unless I’m 100 percent confident that this (his shoulder) is 100 percent.”
Finn Balor has been out of action since Summerslam, where he won the Universal Title in a match with Seth Rollins. However, the following night, due to his injury, he was forced to vacate the title. You can see that segment from the August 22nd episode of Raw below:
