Flip Gordon Reflects On His Time In ROH, Says Winning The ROH World Title Is Still One Of His Goals

Flip Gordon still wants to win the ROH World Championship.

Gordon previously signed with ROH in 2017, and he became a featured member of the roster. He was a recurring member of Being The Elite when The Elite (Cody Rhodes, Hangman Page, and the Young Bucks) were in ROH, but the group departed the company and helped found AEW. However, Gordon stayed in ROH and remained with the company until it went on hiatus at the end of 2021. AEW CEO Tony Khan bought ROH in 2022, but Gordon has not returned to the promotion in this new era.

In an interview with Piers Austin, Gordon was asked to describe why he wasn't signed by AEW when The Elite left ROH at the end of 2018. Gordon noted that he had a longer contract than the others, and he later decided to re-sign with the company because he liked their offer the most.

“I had a longer contract than everybody else. I was at Best of the Super Juniors with Marty [Scurll], and my contract had just come up while I was in Japan, and it being my first deal, I guess technically my second deal, I didn’t understand how contracts worked. I didn’t understand that it would go month-to-month. In my head, I’m like, ‘I need to re-sign so I have a guaranteed paycheck every month going forward.’ So I kind of rushed into re-signing that before talking to the boys. So I ended up signing a multi-year deal, and that kept me there an extra year and a half or so last when The Elite left. Once that contract came up, and I negotiated, Ring of Honor gave me the best bid out of all four companies, so I stuck with Ring of Honor," Gordon said.

Gordon then stated that his goal was to win the ROH World Championship, and he didn't plan on leaving the company until he reached that milestone. Though he didn't get to achieve that goal in his first run with ROH, he made it clear that it's still something that he wants to do. Gordon also emphasized that he is not in a rush to sign anywhere.

"I wanted to be Ring of Honor World Champion. That was my goal. I told myself I wasn’t leaving Ring of Honor until I became world champion. Unfortunately, they got rid of me before I could do it, so that was kind of my out. But that’s still a goal of mine. I have lots of goals in wrestling. I’m in no rush to go anywhere. I’m telling my own story. I have my own ideas and things that I want to do in this business, and I’m in no rush to go anywhere. I just want to have fun and accomplish the goals that I’ve set out for myself," Gordon said.

In the same interview, Gordon noted that he has not been in contact with AEW/ROH, and he is happily experimenting on the independent scene. Click here to see what he had to say.
