Former MLW COO Was In Favor Of MLW’s Women’s Division Having Their Own Show

Mister Saint Laurent’s vision for MLW’s women’s division.
Jason Powell of the Pro Wrestling Boom Podcast conducted an interview with former Major League Wrestling Chief Operating Officer Mister Saint Laurent.
Saint Laurent wrapped up with MLW in February. He had been with the organization since the relaunch in 2017.
It was in 2021 that MLW officially launched its women’s division, which was accompanied by a Women’s World Featherweight Championship. Saint Laurent revealed he was in favor of the division having its own show as opposed to having the women featured alongside the men.
“Honestly, me personally, at MLW, I was against the women’s division because I wanted to hold out until we had an offer to do a separate women’s league, and have WMLW. That’s something that I really wanted to do… I’m not saying they made a mistake launching (the) women’s division. But that was my personal preference was to put the women on their own equal stage or bigger stage, and give them their own show, rather than have male and female on the same card. Maybe I’m in the minority in believing that but, I think you’ve seen the huge growth of the WNBA recently. They’ve got their own separate thing and women’s tennis has their own tour and they make money equal to the men and so, yeah, the idea of running a women’s fight league that’s all women was very interesting to me.”
There have been five MLW Women’s World Featherweight Champions, and those names are listed as follows:
- Taya Valkyrie
- Delmi Exo (two times)
- Janai Kai
- Shoko Nakajima
- Shotzi Blackheart
