Former NFL Player Turned NXT Star Gets New Name

A host of new names were rolled out on this week's episode of WWE NXT, and they're not done.

Dio Maddin is the newest WWE name, given to longtime developmental talent Brennan Williams. Williams has been with WWE since August of 2016, after a run at Booker T's Reality Of Wrestling promotion.

Williams also had an NFL career that saw him drafted in 2015 by the Houston Texans in 2013 in the third round. He'd see work with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New England Patriots before walking away from football to pursue wrestling. Within 100 days of his last NFL contract, he was making his pro wrestling debut.

Williams tweeted on the name change, which you can check out below.

The now-Dio Maddin has been working live event matches with NXT since September of 2016, to the tune of over 100 matches. However, he has yet to have a run on NXT television.

Among the wrestlers to get new names include many of the eight wrestlers in NXT's new Breakout Tournament.
